5 things you need in a brand video for your about page
Picture this...The word is out! People are hearing about your business and coming to your site. They look around your homepage and decide to go directly to your about page to see if your shop is what they're looking for. But they're confronted with a never-ending page of copy that they just don't have time to sort through and read. Do they stay for a few minutes and read more than a few lines? Or do they bounce away because they just don't have any more time to make a decision about your shop?
Well, unfortunately, the answer may be that they bounce away in a lot of cases if you haven't captured their attention by the first couple sentences. I mean, honestly, how much do you actually read off of websites these days? Usually we're just shopping online while we wait to pick up the kids after school or checking out some cool new pins while we eat breakfast in the morning. It's always about multitasking or doing something while we wait for another thing to happen. So really, no one wants to have to sift through a ton of copy just to hear whether your online shop is for them. They've got too many other things going on for that.
On the other hand, the tendency to watch a quick video on a site is so much higher for people these days! You can immediately click on a video and watch for just a few minutes to get a much quicker and more dynamic version of what's going on. Heck, you can even listen to it while you're doing something else! I mean, is that the best thing since sliced bread or what?!
Basically, when you're putting together any content and especially for your about page, you really just don't want to waste people's time. That's the biggest thing that we all highly value, and when you appreciate someone's time they'll appreciate you right back! So that's why we're gonna start using video as a means to convey our message, 'kay? Now, it shouldn't completely replace the copy on your page, but it should provide people with an alternative way to hear what you have to say. You can always pair additional copy with your video as necessary, but we want to make sure that you have a video on your page for those of us who could use a little help when we're short on time and attention span.
